How to get out of your comfort zone

How to get out of your comfort zone

Comfort  , the state of relaxation . Having everything that your body needs and living a pleasant life .

Living in the comfort zone is comfortable but do you know that there is no GROWTH in it . Living in comfort zone does not take much energy . Your comfort zone becomes a victim of carelessness and slowly gets destroyed . If you do not do any new work everyday then your comfort zone will become smaller . You'll forget the skills you learnt . Things you read will go off your mind .

Before learning how to get out of comfort zone know why do we want to live in the comfort zone naturally ?

Evolutionary psychologists cam help us understand this . Thousands years ago from now when we used to live in the forests . The comfort zone was the secret of our survival . If we stay in our caves which is close to the river we will be safe . We'll get water to drink and fish to eat . We would go to the place every evening looking for food and would just come back with food . We didn't need to do anything else . By doing this only our lives used to function properly . The problem is that today we have brought this mentality into the modern era . Do not think that you have become much more advanced that the tribals so these things do not apply to you . Their psychology and our psychology are the same . For this reason we keep trying to stay in our comfort zone even today . Going out of comfort zone means exposing yourself with pain , discomfort and danger . You get anxious talking to new people and that's why you like to be alone . The danger zone does not come outside the comfort zone . Just outside it comes the Growth Zone or Goldilocks Zone .

Growth is possible into Goldilocks Zone . Imagine that you are playing tennis with a 5 year old child . You will win every game with him and then you will not feel like playing . You will be bored . Now imagine that you are playing again Sania Mirza then you'll lose every time . But if you're playing with your friend who's a little better than you , you'll want to try to beat him . This is called the Goldilocks rule .

You don't have to operate in easy mode to get Growth nor in the hardest mode . You have to operate in the mode of 10% more than your ability . With time your comfort zone will expand by 10% .  After this you have to increase the difficulty level by 10% again . And keep repeating this process .

While exercising do not try to lift 100 kg of weight on the very first day itself . You'll hurt yourself severely . This is a danger zone and your back will break in this . Then you won't even be able to lift yourself .  Then for three months you have to stay in the comfort zone . You start with a little weight and gradually increase it .

These are three strategies to get ou of comfort zone

1) CONSISTENCY

Whatever you are doing , do it more consistently . If you exercise 3 days a week then do it 4 times and then start doing 5 days . If you are talking to a new person in a month , then try to talk to someone every week .

This is the most important strategy . Even if you ignore the other two , but if you ignore it you wul never be able to come out of your comfort zone . So consistency is the most important strategy .

The next strategy is

2 ) INTENSITY

This means raising the level of your difficulty . If you are lifting 10 kg weights then you lift 12 kg after few weeks . If you are reading a book written in easy english then next time read a book written in a little difficult English . Increase your level gradually .

Number 3 is

3) DURATION

Doing one repetition for a long time . Let's understand this with an example . If you used to exercise for only 15 mins now do it for 20 mins . If you used to run for 1 km now run for 2 kms .

Do not increase these three things together or else you will leave the comfort zone and reach the danger zone .

If you run 1km 3 days a week that too in 30 mins , So don't get motivated immediately and try to cover 2 km in 15 mins 5 days a week .

CONSISTENCY is more important that INTENSITY .

Go out of your comfort as much as you can maintain it . Otherwise you will soon be back in the zone . The problem is not this only that you will fail but after failing it you will not feel like trying your second time . Your confidence will drop down . You'll settle yourself by saying that " if everytime I lose after try then why to try ? " And in this wat you will slowly get absorbed in the comfort zone .

The special thing about Goldilocks Zone is that it provides feedback loop . When you set the goal to be 10% better and become 10% , this makes your belief strong . This small success motivates you . Then when you achieve a little more success by doing 10% more effort then your confidence increases further . In the same way this positive cycle continues and with time you keep getting better .

So try to do something new everyday . You can either improve your current skills further , or you can try some new skills . Again remember the Goldilocks rule . And put as much food in you mouth as you can chew . Trying something new everyday doesn't mean that you do the useless things , which is of no use . List some productive things that can improve your health , wealth , relationships or mental fitness . Then pick one thing in that list and keep improving that skill little by little according to consistency , intensity and duration . When you achieve mastery in it you can pick up another skill and develop it . If you develop only one new habit in a year then 20 years from now you will have 20 new habits . Let's say 5 of these habits are such that you can earn more money , 5 of them can improve your mental health , 5 habits improve your health , 5 habits improve your relationships , some of them can improve time management , stress management and emotional intelligence , etc etc .

So this much habits are enough to make you God 😂 . By becoming a God , I do not mean that you'll get super natural powers .

The interesting things is that to become so powerful and strong you do not have to work very hard . You just have to develop a new habit in a year . Like we said earlier that CONSISTENCY is more important that INTENSITY . Doing a work for 30 mins for 2 yrs is more important than doing the same work for 16 hrs a year .

So in this way you can come out of your comfort zone with little effort and you can improve yourself .

At last just keep in mind " GREAT THINGS NEVER COME FROM COMFORT ZONE . "

Happy Learnings 🙌
